Although much of his life story is sketchy, we know that he grew up as an only child in Decatur, GA, played baseball and football, got married, had two kids, and worked at many unusual jobs, including stand-up comedy. Ricky made his TV debut way back in 1990 on A&E’s Comedy on the Road. For the next ten years Ricky headlined comedy clubs, delighting audiences with his unique style and humor. In 2000 Ricky became the featured comedian in the Nashville-produced musical variety show at the Alabama Theatre (One the Show) in Myrtle Beach, SC. He developed a following among locals and tourists, and began performing his sold-out one-man shows twice a year there and refrained from touring.
What fans find so appealing about the twisted innocence of Ricky Mokel is his unique style and original, G-rated material. Sometimes called, “the gifted idiot”, Ricky appeals to probably the widest age range in the stand-up comedy business. From age 5 to 99 years, Ricky makes everyone laugh.
In the summer of 2020, after performing six nights a week, 11 months a year, for over 20 years, Ricky retired from comedy. Three years later, Ricky un-retired and is performing three nights a week at the prestigious Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach, SC, while also booking selected concert dates around the country. In the Spring of 2024, Ricky Mokel’s performance on Dry Bar Comedy (seen on Instagram, TikTok and Youtube) generated over 13 millions views in less than six weeks! Ricky lives in Myrtle Beach, SC with his wife Kimbra. They have two cats, two dogs and four grandkids.
